5,548 of California's 10,260 public and charter campuses ran a transitional kindergarten classroom on 2025-26 Census Day — but coverage is uneven: Los Angeles alone has 304.
Transitional kindergarten (TK) is California's free public program for four-year-olds — a full school year before kindergarten. Not every campus offers it. Below is every California city with at least one TK classroom, sourced directly from CDE's 2025-26 Census Day enrollment count. For the full pre-K vs. TK vs. preschool breakdown, see our parent's guide.
